Individual Contribution
In this blog post, I am going to outline all the contributions I made to my groups work.
To being with when it came to planning, I helped to come up with the narrative. I introduced the idea of having an antagonist that carried a secret and helped explore the ideas around that. I decided on the names of the characters and how that played a role in the characteristics that they portrayed as well as researched films that had similar stories to ours. Fatima and I, collectively created the prop and shot list, script and shooting schedule as it was important to be on same page about the details of the trailer.
When it came to the trailer, we shared the filming. The shots include the establishing shot, close up of Raven outside and Phoenix in the background, Phoenix telling Skye about her concerns, the shot where Phoenix is following Raven, when Phoenix discovers the secret on the computer and when Raven messages her at home, the ending of the trailer where Raven is turning her head and most scenes in between as well as the last shot where Raven is waving the knife.
With the trailer, I did most of the editing. I create the sequence and put everything in order. I colour corrected some of the scenes and added fades and transitions. We co-edited the titles and coloured them too. With the sound, I made the voices overlap the scenes and Fatima and I both did the music.
I also created the magazine. I took the picture, edited it in Photoshop and added the features. I asked Fatima for help with the colouring and overall advice. Even though Fatima created the poster and constructed it , I helped out with some of the creative decisions such as choice of image and placement of text.

Magazine - shots taken/mise-en-scene
These are some of the other pictures I took. The one on the left is quite similar to the first one but the sky is more grey. Also the angle is high compared to the other. I didn't like how she wasn't centered and how the sky wasn't as dark as the one I chose. With the one on the right, it is completely different. I placed her in front of trees and you can see some birds that resemble ravens. the branches link it to the trailer and the poster. We also experimented with a hoodie as I thought it would be easier to work with in Photoshop that cutting out her hair. In the end we didn't chose it because the hoodie made her look not like herself in the trailer and even though I loved the background, I knew it would be hard to write features on top of it.

Poster - Image and Font decisions
The image we used for our poster was a close up of another image. That is the top image. It is a screenshot of a video that we were filming for the titles of the trailer. But we really like it when we just saw the shot. We liked how once we zoomed in it appeared a bit out of focus. It helped link it to the ambiguity of the tagline, how everyone has a secret and that at this point, to the audience it is unclear to the secret and the character it belongs to. We had other images that we were choosing between when editing that you can see above. We kept changing the picture to see what we felt linked best to our work. We liked how the branches was a bigger part of the picture as it filled the poster more than the others.
The font we used on our poster all came from Da font. They had a better selection than Photoshop had to offer Fatima. When Fatima create it she wanted to ensure everything looked cohesive and well put together. She used a mixture of the font 'Keep Calm' and 'Big Noodle' for the review, tagline, main body of text the coming soon text. We felt like they were bold enough to be read and seen clearly despite the foggy background. At first when she used the Photoshop font a member of our target audience commented that we should change it as its hard to read, The picture to the right is how it looked like before. We keep the font black throughout as it the colour that best suited our image and theme as well as it being the colour that could be read best.
We used the same font for the title on the poster for the magazine and in our trailer. This links the three of them together. We made the R red as with the magazine cover as it stands for the characters name and lets you see the 'Raven' in 'Depraven'.

Trailer - Research into and use of sound
In this post I am going to list all music and sound effect to explain why my group choose to include them and what places and on how effective they are. First of all, the research I conducted on sound was to find trailers that had a good use of sound. Here are some that I believe works well:
What I like about each of them is that I feel like they work very well with the cinematography for each film as well as the plot of the story line.
00.00- 00.12 Suspenseful Chase Music, Run and Hide (Horror Music) and Dramatic Suspense Sound
00.00- 00.12 Suspenseful Chase Music, Run and Hide (Horror Music) and Dramatic Suspense Sound
These are the sound we used for the intro of our trailer. We wanted the music in the intro of our trailer to reflect the fast pace scenes and the suspense that Phoenix felt. We felt like the combination of the three create a powerful build up.
00.12-00.38 - Free Cinematic Background Music, Blair Witch Theme Song
This sound is placed at the part of our trailer where the equilibrium is still stable. It is an eerie yet still positive mixture of sound. I feel like the cinematic sound helps create a story and makes it follow whilst Blair Witch's soundtrack gives it a deeper and more horror-like element.
00.38-00.43 - Dramatic Suspense Sound
This is for the titles. The Hatred uses a similar sound for their titles and so I was inspired to do the same as it separates the titles from the rest of the trailer and makes them stand out. A member of my target audience also mentioned that it helped them remember what text appeared on the screen.
00.41-01.45 - Blair Witch Theme Song
00.46-02.10 - Colossal trailer music We used the seconds 10:00 to 10.45.
We then used the combination of Blair Witch's soundtrack and Colossal's soundtrack for the middle section of the trailer. We picked parts of them each that went with each scene and then rearranged and manipulated so it we could make the most out of it. One part is when Phoenix is following Raven home there is a part of dramatic music that reflects Phoenix's emotions as she discovers Raven home.
01.46-02.04 - the Ring soundtrack used 01.41-02:00
This was used for the build up at the end after Eli's scream. We added them and cut them so we could experiment with the sound, making some parts louder and others quieter.
01.08-01.59 - Horror fear suspense sound
This is repeated throughout this duration. It acts as pulsing beat that creates more suspense and tension. Towards the end we increase the speed so it feel like it was getting more intense.
00.00 - 02.17 Ambient Woods Alan Wake
This is used throughout the entire trailer. It is woods themed and links to the concepts of the birds. It is a very soft sound and has birds noises in the background.
01.31-01.32 Ping Sound Effects
The ping sound was used when Phoenix's phone went of. It made a better sound than the original ping as it can be heard better.
We tried to stick to royalty free music. This is because it is copyright free. However we did use soundtracks from 3 movies which are copyrighted. If our work was for professional purposes I would of contacted the owner and send them a permission agreement.

Trailer - Using an adjustment layer
We wanted our scenes to be filmed in a darker environment but to the way the camera picked up the lightening, we know it would cause the footage to be grainy. We experienced this issue when we did our preliminary task and what we took away from it was that we need to film in day time but edit the scenes to make them dark. When researching how to make the scenes darker, I discovered that we could use an adjustment layer. Even though we didn't use any adjustment layers in our trailer as we later discovered that we could just colour the actually footage, I thought it could still be nice to document.
I followed this youtube tutorial to help guide me:
To create the adjustment layer what I did first was go to the little create tab along the bottom of the screen and choose adjustment layer. A window then popped up and I kept the dimensions the same and then presses 'OK'. After that I dragged the adjustment layer on top of the clip I wanted to colour correct. I opened the adjustment layer on effect control and under Video Effects, I drew a square around the entire clip using the square tool from opacity properties. I lowered the opacity of the square as I didn't want the changes to be too dramatic. After that I went to Lumetric color and under basic correction, I changes the colouring to what you can see in the picture.
The reason we didn't use an adjustment layer was that it would create the footage to buffer when we wanted to play through it as we edited it. We were already have problems with the software as the file size of the clips were so big due to the high quality camera we used. After doing more research we discovered a way to colour the actual clips which in the long run was easier and quicker to use.
