What did you learn from your target audience?

Premiere - Audience Feedback

After the premiere where we showed members of our target audience our trailer, poster and magazine; we got feedback from them. Even though at this point our products are already complete it was useful to see whether they enjoyed it or not.

Question 1) Do you like horror films?

I wanted to know if the person I was was getting feedback from liked horror films or not because that would reflect in their answers whether they liked it or not.

Question 2) What did you like the story line?

The narrative to the film is something we took a lot of time thing about and we wanted to see whether we suited it to our target audience. And by asking them this question, we would know if understood it. 

• It had a lot of suspense.
• It was relatable, could happen to anyone.

• It was interesting.
• Easily recognized as a horror film.
• I liked the school setting.
• Loved the mystery.

People's favourite parts of the trailer show us what parts of the trailer works well and is suited to our target audience.

• Ending scene.

Question 5) What were your opinion on the music?

I wanted to see if they liked how well the music worked well with our trailer.

Linking our trailer with the poster and magazine is very important in making them look cohesive. By asking other people if they linked, we could receive an unbiased opinion.

• Colour schemes.

• The use of ravens.

Question 8) What would you say we need to improve?

There is always ways that we can improve our work so it was interesting to see what people thought we could change.

• Magazine could be scarier.
• Add more scary scenes.
• Louder voices.
• Darker scenes.
• The introduction of Raven could of been scarier.
• Raven needs to be more scary.
• Better acting.

Individual Contribution

In this blog post, I am going to outline all the contributions I made to my groups work.

To being with when it came to planning, I helped to come up with the narrative. I introduced the idea of having an antagonist that carried a secret and helped explore the ideas around that. I decided on the names of the characters and how that played a role in the characteristics that they portrayed as well as researched films that had similar stories to ours. Fatima and I, collectively created the prop and shot list, script and shooting schedule as it was important to be on same page about the details of the trailer.

When it came to the trailer, we shared the filming. The shots include the establishing shot, close up of Raven outside and Phoenix in the background, Phoenix telling Skye about her concerns, the shot where Phoenix is following Raven, when Phoenix discovers the secret on the computer and when Raven messages her at home, the ending of the trailer where Raven is turning her head and most scenes in between as well as the last shot where Raven is waving the knife.

With the trailer, I did most of the editing. I create the sequence and put everything in order. I colour corrected some of the scenes and added fades and transitions. We co-edited the titles and coloured them too. With the sound, I made the voices overlap the scenes and Fatima and I both did the music.

I also created the magazine. I took the picture, edited it in Photoshop and added the features. I asked Fatima for help with the colouring and overall advice. Even though Fatima created the poster and constructed it , I helped out with some of the creative decisions such as choice of image and placement of text.

This the picture that I used for the front cover of my magazine. What I liked about the picture was the colour of the sky. I felt the darkness added a level of horror and made it appear more scary. Also her stance is quite intimidating. She looks like she is about to cause trouble. We took a lot of other kinds of pictures too but felt like this one would suit it the most. She is wearing black as she wears black throughout the whole trailer so it makes them link. Her angle of gaze is directly at the camera. This shows that's she isn't shy but means business and isn't afraid of confrontation.  We also took the picture at a high angle to make her appear more scary and her seem more intense. We used a mid shot as I didn't want to focus on her body but instead her face and body language.

These are some of the other pictures I took. The one on the left is quite similar to the first one but the sky is more grey. Also the angle is high compared to the other. I didn't like how she wasn't centered and how the sky wasn't as dark as the one I chose. With the one on the right, it is completely different. I placed her in front of trees and you can see some birds that resemble ravens. the branches link it to the trailer and the poster. We also experimented with a hoodie as I thought it would be easier to work with in Photoshop that cutting out her hair. In the end we didn't chose it because the hoodie made her look not like herself in the trailer and even though I loved the background, I knew it would be hard to write features on top of it.
